Chip chose not to come in part to UF’s micromanaging, so it would make since to pass that info on to Scott.
I bought into the Chip Kelly hype even though Frosty was my #1 choice. No one can win at Nebraska, not named Saban or Meyer (only because they would be able to recruit there).
Unfortunately, I think Urbs did have something to do with this, I think he certainly had input with Kelly on this decision, how much it impacted Kelly's decision who knows, but the info he gave Kelly certainly made an impact to some degree.... Very frustrating to think this could be the case. Especially whenever the reason Urbs left wasn't because of work pressure at UF but personal pressure at home
If true then good for Stitch. You don't remove a "Fire for cause" clause for a guy who has a show-cause in his past ... no matter how many games he won (out west). I'm all for paying big salary, giving max control, etc. But, in negotiation of a contract with stakes this high, you still gotta protect your client (us). Cant negotiate away all accountability. Can't let desperation and emotion weaken you so much that you let your client be this guy's bitch. Good for you Stitch.
When Mac was canned I don’t recall Chip’s names being mentioned all that much, many felt because of his show cause UF wouldn’t express interest. Well they did. Our new AD went all in on the biggest fish. Do any of you believe Foley would have done that? Yes SS didn’t land him, so be it. Many thought UCLA was a better fit for Chip anyway because of his personality. I see SS’s efforts in this as positive and that the mindset in the UAA is changing for the better. I know it sucks and a lot of you want to vent, but don’t be so hard on those that shared what information they had. It was on many different Gator forums and was inline with what many thought. They provided what information they had and many ran with it. In the end I don’t think they were wrong. Sceptism is wanted and appreciated but many of you are just being douches about it. Especially many that just joined, so I question their true fandom anyway. In the end, don’t let this get to you. It’s just a game.
5yr 23mil deal. Just as suspected, it wasn't about $$$. What was it Scott??? The UF spin is going to be pathetic!
Remember, there still may be a surprise or two or three coming down. But then again maybe not. But you know I had this info here before anyone else. Roll eyes
I'm not going to knock Stricklin. He swung for the fences, and the odds were always stacked against us. People think Chip didn't come here because we didn't give him enough control over coaching candidates. I think there is a more likely explanation: his ideal staff was mostly based on the west coast, and he wouldn't have had to uproot all of them if he went to UCLA.
Let me know how that works out for you jack! My info was never inaccurate, Chip just chose to go elsewhere because UCLA gave him more of what he wanted than we did. Loser.
I've read that book. I sometimes assign it. First, Sagan might point out that there are examples of people here who do the reverse and that perhaps your own bias is creeping in. Then he would probably suggest that since there is no way to really verify any news from any perspective because the vast majority of us here have no first person contacts, that we would should all stay basically agnostic either way.
I'd be happy if he came on down. You think he'd be okay with the "team effort" style our admin seems to be seeking?
This was by far the best thread I have ever participated in, and special thanks to Tilly & Trill for going above and beyond (don't even think about disappearing @BenTrillGriffin as you said you would!) It wasn't just the info, but the poise you had in abundance. Seriously thank you. This thread also helped me identify the chronic Sad Sacks, and knee jerk UAA haters, for future reference. I invite you all to find another team to follow.
Of course not. Honestly the only coaches that will accept that are: 1. Strong 2. Norvell And maybe Taggart. Honestly if I was Taggart I’d stay at Oregon if our UAA wants to meddle
