Another update, from a different side: A big piece is also how we want to micromanage our coaches. Chip wanted the keys, don't forget how close he and Urb are - Urb probably gave him the run down. Also, do you guys remember that thing that came out about "not wanting a legendary coach peaking in?" That may be in play too. We're going to have to find a coach who doesn't mind it being a "team effort" putting it nicely. Might as well let Spurrier be the coach if this is what we're doing.
Especially when he's already been in trouble for a recruiting violation at his prior college coaching gig. Asking for a get out of jail free card during the negotiations is a big ol red flag.
I feel like starting a gofundme for some of these always pessimistic, the sky is falling posters. Get each of them a tattoo on their forehead with the suicide prevention hotline number. Save a few lives here.
Maybe CK is converting to Scientology. The temple in CA is closer to LA than the one in Clearwater is to Gainesville.
They do have this http://www.uclafootballfacility.com/ Meanwhile, we are at least two years away from even starting ours. I don't know if this was decisive in Kelly's decision but I'm pretty certain this has hurt us considerably in recruiting over the last 7-8 years.
While my info was correct all the way through, one thing @puntersarepeopletoo kept pointing out was how our admin and "brass" were stuck in their ways. I dismissed that only because we had a new AD/Pres and I thought maybe they would challenge that and shift things. He was right seemingly, this staff wants a coach they can micromanage. I'm here to tell you, we'll NEVER get a big time coach / home run hire if that's how we want this thing to go. It's ridiculous.
Nothing but misery with florida football for a near decade and it continues. I expect the same thing with frost before he jumps to nebraska and we settle on whoever is plan c. probably strong or mullen.
They will pay more money than that for Frost. They are not saving anything to get a few of the top coaches left. This was not about the money.
If this is true then Stricklin did the right thing. To add to this - UF should make sure this bit of information leaks. It will paint Chip in a very bad light and coaches everywhere will use it in negative recruiting, as they tie it to his show cause at Oregon. I don't think Chip was thinking about the 2nd and 3rd order consequences here.
Cheap? He commits recruiting violations and you're willing to pay him out? Strickland's is protecting the school.
