Consensus seems to be that UF offered Chip Kelly EVERYTHING. Huge salary, ton of support for facilities/staff. I've seen it described that they offered him a Saban-Alabama/Harbaugh-Michigan type deal. At the end of the day, I think he would have taken it had UCLA not opened AND they didn't offer him a similar package. I think both things being equal, the guy prefers to coach out west and particularly in a town where he can be completely invisible and have no pressure. If that's the case, maybe it's a blessing in surprise. Need a guy who fully embraces coaching in the SEC and won't be wishy-washy. Hoping that's Scott Frost but at this point will be able to justify Willie Taggart or Mike Norvell. Really have no interest in Dan Mullen.
That's who Chip Kelly chose to coach for. So he turned down the opportunity to coach on the big stage, climb the tallest mountain, and go toe to toe with the current king of all coaches and instead he chose to walk up a small hill where he can sit in mild temperatures and enjoy low expectations. In 4 -5 years he'll play the same wishy washy, maybe I'm looking for a new challenge game.
Our UAA is notorious for its lack of commitment to the football program. It’s not about money. The stench of Fooley lingers on
We finally got that breaking news notification we've been waiting for for two weeks. Just wasn't to our school lol. Kelly is either slick or we have a bad negotiating team if they didn't realize they were getting played. Fuchs is probably mad as hell his time was wasted. Is he mad at Kelly or Scott tho? Let's hope or brass regroups well and find us a winner! Right now we are in serious danger of becoming the Vols or UCLA (ironically they may becoming us...the good us). Time to man up and bounce back!
We can't let this thread die so close to 1100 pages. Just change the thread title from Kelly Buzz to Frost Buzz.
Florida fans should never make fun of Grumors again. What an embarrassment to have been out maneuvered in a matter of days by a basketball school when we’ve been working on getting this guy for at least two weeks. The auburn fans breathed a sigh of relief when it was announced.
Probably because they knew he might spurn them. But with everyone so nosey it was pretty much impossible.
I think it hurts more that it was UCLA than anything else. They are a tier 2 school. I think if it was an OSU, Michigan, Bama etc it would be less of a slap in the face. UCLA just beat us out for our home run coach. Let that sink in.
Will be interesting to look back in 5 years and see how this decision plays out. I don't blame the UAA or Strick. Kelly made his choice.
So many had "sources". Funny. Can't wait to hear he agreed in principle and then backed out. Wait for it wait for it. Where's all those "in the know guys " now???
Or...he wanted much more than we were going to allow (and no, I don't mean retaining coaches) and UCLA caved. Either way I say....thanks for NOT selecting us. It was NOT a good fit.
