I dont think anyone actually knows. i think people assume UF wouldn't give Chip what he wants based off the history of how bad the UAA has managed football but its just an assumption.
My sources tell me that Stricklin has tried to talk Spurrier into coming back as head coach. But the old ball coach won't do it. So they're going to go after Bill Snyder.
So what’s the deal. Every single news periodical is saying Chip Kelly is off the table and actually saying Florida is no longer interested. So why are we still talking about it? These were 10 hour ago reports. Is there new info or something?
Is Muschamp an option? Looks like he's doing pretty good. Maybe the problem is our Athletic Department demanding too much control and setting these coaches up to fail. Maybe Champ IS actually a good coach. Maybe Mac IS actually a good coach. It might not even matter who we get.
No. I don't think anyone truly wants to admit Chip is a goner until he's standing at a podium in LA. Until then I get the sense we're going to have this thread exist where a lot of people keep lying to themselves about Floridas chances with Chip
I really started to wonder last night what is truly going on in GV. Foley was so good at hiring coaches in every department outside of football and womens basketball and then Scott comes in and it's not looking like anything is going to change regarding the football hire. Are both Foley and Scott that incapable of hiring a solid head coach in football or are there some obnoxious boosters in gainesville who won't let people do their job? Maybe Foley really just was that clueless with every decision he made in football and maybe Stricklin is no better once Florida ends up on option 4 or 5. But I get this feeling some boosters are to blame for some of this mess
Oh, lol. Too bad they don’t know our bigger problem is a report from BR that says Frost is a “done deal” because he is/was the better fit in the first place.
The thing is we did go against our nature and give him control while still maintaining institutional control. Tough to do and get the old guard on board. Stricklin did all that. A lot of time, hard work and money went into getting this for Kelly. After all that.....he plays games.
I'm not saying the guy isnt accomplished. I just think its a bit much to say he could win a championship anywhere. At Florida he could easily win a championship, any good coach could with the built in advantages UF has.
I am wondering if Chip asked for a percentage of the registered merchandise sales at UF or UCLA. That would add up to some big money. It is something that the administration would guard zealously and not want to set a precedent for. Just a thought, that would be a pretty nice bonus on top of a $6M/year salary even if it was 1 0r 2%. If he wanted a guaranteed cut for 5 years I can see where this would be refused. Especially if he leaves after three years and the next coach wants the same sweet deal.
