I really like Matt Campbell. If not Kelly or Frost, he is the guy I'd want. And I'd be totally happy if it was him over Frost. He is a guy that would be here for a long, long time. Well tempered and well spoken. Everything I have read and listened to on him is pretty impressive. I have no doubt he would be very successful recruiting Florida after a couple years. But I do think he would need a killer FL recruiter on staff for the first few seasons.
While I do not fault Ben and Tilly for posting what they know, I do criticise BenTrill for coming here on multiple occasions claiming that an announcement was imminent in 48hours to a week at most... two weekends ago. We can all say that is false at this point. I don't believe he lied, but whatever his source was, it ultimately was not accurate. An announcement just could not have been imminent when a deal was not even struck.
The question is if he has the connections to pull that sort of staff. That's very important for a young coach.
I honestly have no idea why anyone pays for this info. I really dont. I have a friend who texts me insider stuff from GC when stuff is posted. 247? I'm in a chat room right now where every insider post on 247 is copy pasted Twitter? I never got the twitter hate. Half the insider stuff posted on GC and 247 or rivals ends up on twitter via a screenshot or copy paste. Paying for information is laughable to me because whatever is posted on these sites that want you to pay WILL end up on reddit or twitter. There is literally nothing any of these sites can do about it either. They arent going to change their model, i know that, and obviously ill never talk people out of spending their money to get information they could find for free.
None of the insiders were given accurate information so it has nothing to do with Tilly or Trill. Like I said before, CK was more than likely giving each party (UF and UCLA) good vibes throughout the process without letting them know that he still hadn't made up his mind. Hell, right now at 11:58PM on November 24th I'm willing to bet Chip Kelly has no idea where he will be coaching, if coaching at all, next year.
So who is he gonna pick? And can you ask your insider if the bucs will win this weekend? Are the chiefs done? Do the jags keep rolling? Saints? Lots of stuff im unsure of. Real glad that CK is a done deal for us.
I mentioned in a previous thread one of the biggest advantages hiring Kelly was that he was available now, that fades more and more everyday. However, if it turns out we don't get him, I do not think we have lost anything, as we have not been able to contact any coaches that had not finished their season. Seems we have give Kelly our offer, if he does not sign soon (sunday) its time to move on.
Nothing the site can do about the free rider problem. People pay for it because they realize that if they don't, the service will go away.
i'm hardly "guru",but from coaching small college ball, seeing consistencies with reading and learning from coaches something hits home about matt campbell and the way he runs a program. he also has a nice offense, just needs better players. sorry i can't qualify that any better in 500 words or less, etc.
I agree. But a lot of us have pointed to the possibility that their info is wrong, but their confidence level was a tad on the unrealistic end. Anyone saying anything contrary was dismissed. Funny thing is, I still think there is a chance Chip Kelly may still end up here. We'll see...
I am sure he went there to seal a deal. Yes, but yet we have been lead to believe many times here on the board that it was a done deal. Which it is clear it never was.
You gotta have a staff full of great coaches if you're going to be a young coach at UF. I'm not saying you're wrong. What he did at ISU is amazing. If he's the guy, I'm behind him 110%. It's just a risk.
It should be impossible for Chip Kelly to burn a bridge to us. He's worth negotiating with regardless of what he is asking for. Here is an article from January 6th, 2013. https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/1/6/3842840/chip-kelly-nfl-oregon-eagles-browns He became the Eagles coach on January 16th. It seems like we won't know for sure until there is a formal announcement from somebody.
