This is exactly it. He searching for the job that gives him his kingdom. The question is what is the control vs program upside/prestige ratio for Chip. How much extra control would ASU have to give him to give up UCLA, how much extra control does UCLA have to give to pass up Florida?
How? When he had Boosters that wanted him out before he even got there. IMO... it was a job that he should’ve never taken.
This is literally going to come down to who relinquishes the most control. I do feel like that's what we have to do if we expect this man to get us back on track as a program. But apparently we've stated exactly how much control we're going to give it up and aren't budging any further. My next thought is UCLA must not have been willing to give up much more than we did.
Well, he took it. He failed to make the best of it. Boosters don't control how prepared his teams were, how his teams played on Saturday, or their gameplans.
We all know why he was set up to fail in Texas, Everyone scared to say it. UT boosters had issue with the color of his skin.
YES!! Finally. Nobody is bigger than the program. Holy crap..he really is the most indecisive person ever!
He wasn’t good enough? I get what you are insinuating, but no other coach with that kind of record would have survived there.
Done for the night and amazed that I'm still pulled in to this thread. Taking the family to (hopefully if we find tickets) our first Gator game in SEVEN YEARS. After not missing a home game for nearly 20 years, I can't believe it's been that long since we've been to a game. Anyway, win or lose, I can't wait! Go Gators!
Without any real knowledge about any discussions, why are people running with the idea Kelly asked for any assistants to be vetted? We dont know that even happened and I've always thought it was false. And i have no idea why anyone runs with the rumor about keeping Shannon. That would never be on the table. Not like he has been a 20 year DC and long term Gator.
If he ends up here and we find out he was the main problem in the negotiations, if he performs well right away. If he struggles year one we will have very little patience with him and question why we did not go after Frost.
I agree. If it were between Mullen or Strong and those were our only two choices, I would take Mullen. Miss St has never been a good program and he made them somewhat respectable in the hardest division in all of college football, SEC West. Strong had a program that sells itself, always gets good recruits, and somehow couldn't get out of his own way.
And that caused him to have a losing record? I’m not buying it, sorry. I don’t disagree that he had some opposition, or the reasons behind that, but the bottom line is that the results weren’t good enough.
I am not trying to belittle UCF, I live in the Orlando area and support them, have family members that go to school and work there. But to use today’s game as a comparison to the Gators is ludicrous. First, UCF has ver 60,000 students but can’t fill up a 45k stadium. Second, all the other things to do Inc Orlando keep people from the games? That is what Miami uses as an excuse. I’m driving 2 hours in the morning to see my Gators play and the Bach Christmas Choral isn’t going to stop me. And finally, not sure where you are seeing average attendance of 39k, I’ve been to a couple of games and the stand still we’re half full.
