Strong can still prepare a defense, that's for sure.

Honestly, if Taggart is a good a recruiter as people claim he is, he might be the best bet. At least the team will be stacked, and in the meantime we can work on our facilities. Who knows, he could turn out to be a success too.

Leach would be fun, but he strikes me as the type of guy who prefers to be a god at a small school.

If we want a recruiter, why not just grab a proven SEC winner?

Kelly was vetted, engaged, probably offered. You get the fan favorite you are the ultimate winner, and if it doesn't work out, you don't have to fight the ghost of not pursuing it over the next few seasons.

There is no way to perfectly manage fan expectations and the course of events in the hiring process. You take the best position possible and deal with the results as they emerge.

There seems to be some confusion as to the desire to get an 'exciting' hire and the 'exciting' hire being the impetus for Mac's firing. Mac had to go, and UF had a chance to do it at a discount. It was an opportunity to avoid another 12 months of deafening criticism, fan anger, and program atrophy. Anything is an improvement to that.

"Home run", "exciting", or "splash" hires are best case scenario after that, but were never a guarantee, nor prequisite for ending Mac's time in G-ville.

I guess we are talking Les here? Was he really that great a recruiter though? LSU has a pretty plum situation in terms of recruiting. You almost have to try to not recruit well there.

Agreed. Works out well for both parties. Both were interested, both did their due diligence, got close but just not close enough. Nobody comes out looking bad. Well done if you ask me.

My guess is that the reason so many UF reps., including Pres., went to NH was at least partly because of the very real concern of CK's past and what he could possibly do to the program negatively.

Yes..why expect good coaching AND recruiting...let's just settle.

Our fan base has become so toxic. As in it accepts mediocrity.

Agreed. But the tactic is not that great if Frost isn't interested, since Kelly can just ask his old assistant.

    The real info from insiders:

Tilly was right on Mac and Chip Kelly becoming our top target

Buddy Martin was right on the plane flight to NH prob the best scoop of the process

Everything else seems speculation or reiterating twitter sources and it’s been a lot of fun

If we don’t land Kelly or Frost then UAA failed miserably

Outside Kelly, there aren't really any realistic home runs out there though. So we are settling regardless.

    https://www.seccountry.com/lsu/by-the-numbers-how-les-miles-compares-to-other-great-sec-coaches
9 – Let’s begin with what Miles has accomplished on the recruiting trail. Miles has reeled in nine recruiting classes that were ranked in the top 10 in his 11 seasons at LSU, according to 247Sports. Three of those classes were ranked in the top 2 in the country. The three classes that “didn’t pan out” were in 2005 (Miles first season), 2008 and 2012. Those classes were ranked 13th, 12th and 14th, respectively. In other words, Miles has put together a top-15 recruiting class or better in every season at the helm.

Yes, Miles could recruit. If anything, the criticism of Miles was his choice in OCs and lack of QB development.
