Well, technically, he wasn’t fired, they “mutually agreed to part ways” (I’m totally kidding) I don’t necessarily buy that though. Possibly if they were calling it a player safety issue, that makes sense.
Using leverage Kelly - Listens to UF and gets a better offer from UCLA Frost - Listens to UF and gets a raise at UCF or a better offer from Neb (He is a Husker, His parents were athletes at Nebraska - he is Nebraska through and through) Mullen - Listens to UF and gets a revised contract at Miss St Fuente - Listens to UF and gets a revised contract at Va Tech Campbell - Listens to UF and gets a revised contract at Iowa State and so on. With a bunch of high paying jobs coming open/already open the pay outs for coaches will inflate a bit. Coaches who are tagged as candidates for these positions can use this as an opportunity as leverage for a better contract. The money is out there -go grab it. UF starts the whole thing, people move and money flies and that is how we end up with Charlie Strong, Willie Taggart, Mike Norvell, Dave Doeren, or Neal Brown.
This. This administration has proven time and time again that they are not committed to what it takes to compete in the new landscape of college football. A lot has changed in the last 10 years and we are still living in the past refusing to accept it. We are the Kodak of college football
How can we blame Kelly for going to UCLA if he gets more control to implement his program there? Seems like a no brainer If Kelly is asking for more it means he wants to be here. He just needs Florida to start acting like a top athletic program
Sumlin is going to look a whole lot better if Frost heads for Lincoln. Would be sketchy on the PR end, but an upgrade from Mac. Probably a push with Mullen.
Well, as i said before, Frost is my 1a choice to Kelly being 1b. I will be quite happy to get Frost... I will be quite happy if Kelly in fact chooses us this weekend. As for Frost... if he was willing to go to UCF as a 0-12 team, he is surely willing to go to Florida, a team with just a few tweaks is very competitive at minimum. Plus we dont know how important the Alumni thing of Nebraska is to him, heck Scrum Slaughter is a Mississippi State alumni and he left that job at his alma mater to come to Florida. It comes down to where Mrs Frost wants to raise their child. I have said that before and maintain that will be the final factor for Frost.
yea i dont get why people dont realize this. its a simple point. unless chip is asking for a 20M buyout and 10M a year and for his DC to make 4M a year I'm not sure what else they are scared of. If its the control issue or not liking that Chip doesnt want to rub the egos of a bunch of old boosters than to me thats our UAA doing what they do best, which is fold like a lawn chair under pressure.
The whole saga and how it unfolded was pretty obvious once UCLA fired Mora. The question is did CK know this was coming and played UF to get more out of UCLA or was he legitimately interested in UF but got a comparable or better offer at a place he preferred.
With so many big jobs opening up there has to be some serious money spent this year. A few years ago people laughed when I said coaches would soon hit $10mil/year.
I'm not like the people who believe Florida has fallen from the upper-tier of coaching jobs, but I don't believe people thirst for UF in particular nearly as often as we think. I believe the same goes for Texas, USC, Alabama, Ohio St, etc. Small markets get more exposure now than ever. I'm not saying UF isn't a much, much better place than UCF, but I think people aren't as quick to jump as they used to be.
