We don't open the checkbook. At least not enough to lure good coaches from major schools. We couldn't outbid Okla for Stoops and we ain't outbidding those schools either.
The thing with Mullen its that he can develop players, something that mac didn't have a clue at it. his players were 2* and 3* stars coming out of HS.
Some of the problem is that you have to trip over 50 great schools in the NE to get to Florida, and on the West Coast they just don’t consider an east coast school unless it’s one of those 30. The reality is Florida is only known as a good school in the SE and I wouldn’t say it’s seen as exceptional, other than being a great value.
Patterson has done a great job at TCU which is at best the 3rd team in Texas, and before they got into the big 12 they were 4th in that state. He's basically turned them from a nobody in a nin power 5 to a top 25 team annually. It's way more impressive imo than what Mullen has done at Miss St.
His second team QB looking like FF if not worse right now. Injuries/suspensions put a real damper on things. But I've been told they are excuses.
I think the part that bothers me, is we easily could have outbid the other "major schools" in most cases. The money that has flowed into this program over the last 30 years is insane. When the economy took a complete dump there were 3 schools that were in the black and UF was one of them. We are constantly in the top 10 in revenue even when our football program is down. Then we go and raise ticket prices because we were "well below the SEC ticket price average" while still out earning everyone else in the conference, including Bama at the time. This is the reason I was pissed we ended up hiring Mac. We had the resources to go get who we actually wanted but didnt do it.
Agree with you on Dabo. He's got to have 10 losing season in a row before he's downgraded from god status in Clemson. Malzahn- pass. Franklin isn't leaving PSU for the same reasons as Dabo, resurrected them from a dead program. For the folks saying Strong - I like the guy but - pass. He had good D when he was here and pretty good at Louisville but other than that what has he done? Mullen same as Strong. Hasn't proven he can get it done. Watching the MSU Ole Miss game, Mullen's D coordinator may be someone CK should look at when he comes here
He seems to want out of Miss State every year.. You hear reports about him every year being interested in other jobs..But the guy has it made there in Starkville.. He can win 8,9 maybe even 10 wins and he’s a hero .
We weren't even close to being in the same ballpark as OU as far as football tradition when we were legitimately looking to hire Stoops. OU claims 7 MNC when we had 1. I don't think you can say that you're talking apples to apples no matter how well you see things with your orange and blue glasses on.
Seriously? He developed Tebow? That's why he had so many pro teams scrambling for him. He did nothing for Tebow. All Tebow accomplishments were achieved with his raw athletic ability. He won the Heisman in spite of Mullen.
We've also had the resources to have better facilities but we are still way behind a bunch of schools.
