We didnt? We had 2 maybe 3 guys with any game experience at all at LB and the depth that was supposed to be there with the freshmen recruits were suspended. I was stoked to see Miller but his ding dong self had to go play with credit cards. When a walk-on is your #2 at every LB position you are extremely thin at LB.
I don't think MAc could hold CJK's jock with 12 hands and there was no line of p5 schools waking for him. A better comparison is that Urban had ND in his living room the night before Foley handed him a pen and paper shook his hand in agreement.
Sike Slidel, proving to be a master media manipulator... throwing everyone so far off the scent of the “done deal” that it still comes as a surprise. The only way to make it a bigger story? Make it appear that we stole him from the clutches of another school.
Would Mora have been fired if they beat USC? For the record, they should have. I put money on the over in that game and they were doing a better job than the score indicated. Wonder if their AD was hoping for a loss because it would have been a hard sell to fire him after a win over USC and we would definitely have CK should we want him. To me it sucks to worry about UCLA. I’ve been to a few UCLA games and it’s more boring than the NFL. I HATE UCLA football. So boring. Don’t even really know why.
this is the kind of stuff that sounds good in our heads as fans but is a terrible idea in multi-million dollar head football coaching negotiations
Not his job? Correct me if I am wrong but is the AD not responsible for ALL of the coaches? Does a boss not make suggestions to subordinates about personnel at just about every job on the planet?
Guys this is a top 10 football program. The only place an incoming head coach is told who some of his assistants will definitely be is in high school. Thats because the coaches are occupying teaching slots and they don't give those up. If a new coach isn't given free reign to pick his guys as long as they pass a vetting process for past actions the relationship is doomed from day 1 or DOA when it comes time to sign the contract.
That is my point. Chip Kelly has many options. Jimmy Mac did not. We were never in a fight to get him.
Everyone and their brother didn’t want Mac at that time. He would be dumb not to pit two schools who want him against each other. He turned town Tenn and now it’s wither Florida or UCLA and I believe whatever he knows where he’s going and if I had a gun to my head, and I hope I’m wrong, I just feel like it’s UCLA based on what I’ve heard. I just hope it was that buy out thing and he calls us home on Monday. That would be fire and a 5 run grand slam! Please! We need it.
Chip Kelly hasn't proven himself to put together a staff on his own. Except for three people, Bellotti did it at UO, Roseman in Philly, and Baalke in SF. The only time he sorta got the keys was the last year in Philly, and that was mainly personnel. His NFL staffs were filled with NFL lifers, except for the three I've mentioned over and over. Not saying he doesn't have a list of people he'd like to work with, but as far as prior working experience or staff building, he doesn't particularly have it. It's a legitimate concern for an athletic department to have.
