I agree. It may be that Chip and his agent told UCLA at some point that they would get their shot to make an offer. He prolly didn't want to burn any bridges for any future opportunities down the road.
If nothing else, I want Mal. He’s been on my list before AU. Foley didn’t hear me screaming at him. Wth would he go to Arky? That’s bonkers.
This is why I keep saying keep the door cracked. Stricklin was very quick to shoot stuff down on Twitter. Now, 4 days of quiet. It is my belief that most of what we have heard is accurate, and it literally comes down to Chip walking the aisle or running away from the alter. If he does that, I won't blame the bride. A bride by the way that can take her pick from the eligible groomsmen left behind.
Man on the moon me if this was already posted. I can't keep up with the pace of this thread and try to fake working all at the same time.... From USA Today: Chip Kelly considers offers from Florida, UCLA; turns down Tennessee
Also we need to remember Clemson was a lower tier program than UF when they hired Dabo. Only after Dabo have they seen sustained success and built up their facilities. Top tier programs don't have to take a chance on a Dabo like guy. We can typically go straight to the great ones. Sure sometimes we miss out one a great one, but we should be able to avoid the Macs/Zooks/Muschamps/etc.
The smart part of their fan base will know we made a great hire and could be, or should be, a contender sooner than later. But georgia is already there and Bama fans would know we have to win the East before they need to worry about us. fsu fans however should see this hire as a much bigger immediate threat than georgia or bammer.
Then national reports and cl This notion that Phil Knight owns Chip Kelly, or that Chip is some crazy jersey fanatic is unfounded. He's just a guy who coached at Oregon the school where Nike was invented
I think they'll be more impacted than what you think. It is more about swag/fear/confidence. If we hire CK we would no longer look up at Bama. They'd have no aura to us. I think thats what those fans care about the most (besides titles)....they want to be known as the BMOC by everybody. With CK at the helm, they are no BMOC to us. We'd be ready to rock and roll with them.
I agree with most of this...except it is pretty known amongst people who often get these things right that an agreement is in place. Does it have a window as Heitner says? Perhaps.
