In coaching searches the coach doesn't fly out to meet anybody, the schools go to the coach. If anybody has actual, legit questions, I'll answer them to the best of my ability without saying too much. Other than that, I've got some Clicquot ready to be popped in celebration of a new coach named Chip Kelly (a victory over FSU would be nice too). Hey @gatorgirl - I'll see you later for those drinks. lol - See you guys at the presser!! #GoGators
An interesting wild card is Urban Meyer. Chip and Urban are fairly close. If Chip needs insight into the lifestyle piece of coaching in Gainesville, is there a better reference? I believe, despite the ending, Urban loved coaching in Gainesville. I know for certain Shelly Meyer loved it because she told me and speaks of it often. Bottom line, if chip were to say no, it would be because it’s not what he wants. It’s not SS’s fault or anyone else’s. I think he’s in.
How do you know any of that stuff you mentioned matters to Chip Kelly? It matters to you because you're a fan. He may not care that UF has more Heisman winners or more national championships. UCLA has plenty of advantages. These are subjective, obviously. In your (and my) mind some of these would be considered disadvantages. But we are not Chip Kelly. Who knows what he wants? Some potential advantages: Low pressure environment (like you said), the challenge of turning a lower tier program into a powerhouse, the climate, the culture/people, the UCLA campus, big city life vs. middle-of-nowhere small town atmosphere, more anonymity, In-N-Out burger. Any one of these things could mean a big deal to Chip Kelly. You are looking at things from your perspective. You can't possibly know what is going on inside his head. He is notoriously secretive and strange.
Btw my question wasn't because I was skeptical. Just wanted to hear your respective because it it's usually very good/level headed and you know how to interpret things based on your info
Why would Kelly sign a contract with an out clause? Why not just wait to sign the contract? What is the logic behind that? I am not a legal minded person in the least.
Is it not disconcerting to people that he flew to L.A. as opposed to them coming to him? I think it shows he's more interested in UCLA by virtue that he actually went there for his meeting. Maybe I'm speculating, but that means something, especially considering it's a 6 hour flight.
It's about where we need to go instead of there we are. Set them up with some groovy music, add in a love song, a touch of concern, more love and then....give them the real meat.
Nah, not your's bro. That's what I responded, those guys know who they are lol. Get your champagne ready my friend!
I have no idea if he signed anything but if he did it is highly unlikely it was anything more than a memo of understanding - agree to work toward an agreement kind of thing. I think those are pretty breakable/ignorable Especially if neither party is going to sue.
SEC Football asked "Everyone seems to have a Chip Kelly take, which one do you believe?" My response 99% of what is being put on Twitter is nothing more than speculation and Clickbait to join a site. And it is not what I believe, it is what I know and I laugh ate all the flashy headlines from sites that know nothing and have sketchy sources.
This thread is an interesting study on human interpretation. We all have the same (non) information but interpretations are polar opposites at the same time. The longer it takes to officially announce a head coach means it is both better and worse for UF getting Chip Kelly. Chip Kelly lives in New England and coached at Oregon which means he and his offense will and will not work in the SEC and he would favor the anonymity of large California towns while being in a Southern fishbowl and having a better social life in Cali but enjoying a small town atmosphere in Gainesville. It is frustrating waiting on an official coach announcement but at least this thread has been entertaining in the meantime.
Regardless, an agency that has that many high profile clients is not going to push one to a school just because someone, owner on down, is an alumnus of that school. Just doesn't work that way.
