Reminds me of Urbs meeting with Notre Dame, after we courted him for a while, but before we had him locked up. Hopefully same result. i.e.--we get our guy, notwithstanding a late rush to steal our bride at the altar.
Take it for what it’s worth but Mark Schlabach says Kelly to decide between UCLA and Florida only. Just looking at the two University names next to each other I just shake my head wondering what in the world is he thinking other than negotiation tactic. I would be blown away if he really chose UCLA. https://twitter.com/mark_schlabach?ref_src=twsrc^tfw&ref_url=about:blank
Fuente, Gundy, Leach > Sumlin Campbell and Norvell > Mullen So if we get Mullen, Strong, or Taggart then something went terribly wrong.
It's lost somewhere in the previous 850 pages but somewhere, somebody did a Pros vs. Cons list of CK taking the UCLA job over ours. It had 5-6 points on each side. I totally agreed with the "Pros" for him going to UCLA, and they were fairly compelling. And then, even on the "Cons" side, maybe 2-3 of the things he had listed as cons actually sounded more like pros to me. Make no mistake about it, I think Chip Kelly would be successful at UF, and he is #1 on my wish list. I really and truly hope he does choose us over UCLA. But if he does, it will surprise me and will be contrary to all the reading I've done about him in the last two weeks.
Well we don’t know if they road tripped to Orlando. Based on the OV thing, I have zero doubts we have a coach. The only thing that makes sense is we cancelled to intro him to the whole group.
A lot of it could be outside of football, quality of life specifically. Though most of us are quite fond of Florida as a whole, Gainesville is pretty lackluster compared to LA. Especially for people with money. It’s just the truth. Football wise I could see some perks of UCLA, new football center, lower profile job to implement your process and get going. But in terms of going all in on football resources every year I can’t see that commitment from UCLA or their fans.
we're all Gators here so it means more to us, but really there's absolutely nothing wrong with Chip Kelly wanting to explore all his options in full before making a decision. If any of us had two similar job opportunities in our chosen professions like this, we'd all do the same - it's just smart to do that from a personal and professional standpoint. I don't think that has any bearing on his effort level once he makes a choice, though. If he decides to come to UF (and good god I hope he does), I have complete faith that he'll be giving 110% trying to put Florida football on top of the mountain again.
