No...But a lot of these guys could be the next Dabo. That would be fine with me.

We wouldn’t let a coach have the time to become the next Dabo.

Right on. If Kelly goes elsewhere, it will be because he didn't want to come here--period.

If goes to UCLA it will be because he wants to be in California in the PAC 12--not in Gainesville in the SEC.

How that is Stricklin's fault is beyond me. Kelly was a complicated hire right from the start, and has a track record of being wishy washy on taking jobs; he stiffed Tampa Bay at the altar. He is going to do what he wants to do, and blaming that on Stricklin is beyond idiotic.

If Stricklin deserves any criticism, in my opinion, it's because he wasted so much time on Kelly. I never thought Kelly was going to come, and if he did, he wouldn't stay very long, so why bother with him? Show Frost some love, and hire him. Now Frost feels like he is plan B and is probably less than thrilled by that. Instead, the Kelly frenzy was so out of control that Stricklin probably felt that he had no choice but to try, or he would be pilloried by fans. Most unfortunate.

It's not clear at all that the deliberate pace a couple of weeks ago was due to us. Could easily have been due to Kelly, who is a deliberate guy and had every incentive to slow things down until other jobs opened up.

Does anyone like Sumlin? I think he is a good coach and could do well here.

Yeah if we get CK across the finish line I don’t expect a CFP berth first year. I would want some offensive improvement, beat who we should beat, and at the minimum be competitive in the tough games. Year 2 though he could really ramp up a program. Really hope this happens and until the guys on the insider board give us something to believe otherwise, I still believe this will happen.

Having had half a dozen conversations with Mike Leach over the years, I figure the reason he hasn't gotten a better opportunity yet is he is often the smartest guy in the room. Those ADs, administrators, and money men don't like it when somebody is both blunt and smarter than them.

I’m ok with that. Dabo, Les, Jimbo are great recruiters who are able to surround themselves with great assistants. I think we all expect at least that and having failed with a few unproven projects, we need a sure hit at this point.

This search/thread reminds me of the movie Labyrinth, GC searches through a vast maze to rescue CK from the goblin king.

He could be good but you just don’t hire a guy that just got fired at the same level you’re hiring for.

The only time that might be acceptable is if the coach was fired from a higher level (NFL really - CK) or if there was some big cultural disagreement. Let’s say hypothetically Saban is fired because he says Elephants are dumb but still smarter than the average Alabaman, yes you hire Saban.

Does anyone else on here feel like it’s more likely someone else not named Chip Kelly will be our next coach?

That makes sense. Most people I know that have a Mensa worthy IQ are also socially awkward in their own peculiar way. That's probably what's initially made me weary of him without really stepping back to look at it from different perspective.
