Chip hasn't signed yet, Fire Spencer Sheldon. He let CK go to UCLA and now we're going to be stuck with Butch Jones!
Its going to continue to get worse. The longer Florida goes without making an announcement the more likely Chip will be connected to the growing list of schools who are firing their coach. So dont be surprised to see TAMU come into the picture. Saturday night, sunday morning will get even more interesting because that is where another half dozen head coaches will get fired and then dont be surprised if again, Chip is linked to 1 or 2 of those schools. Its only going to get worse until Chip is officially hired or Chip falls through Floridas hands.
By that logic, if he wasn't sure of being at UCLA, why did he take the meeting with them? It appears that he is weighing his options. Wouldn't you?
Unfortunately, I agree. However, if USF does pull off a win, it would make Strong more palatable for me. But he'd still fall far short of Chip Kelly imo.
I certainly would. If anything, the fact he is really weighing out where he wants to be is positive. If he comes, he should be all in because he certainly had options. We can't talk to anyone until after Saturday officially anyway, so I think it's fine Sticklin chased this this far right now. If anything, it was smart to go ahead and make a serious run and have the yea or nea by Monday when we can chat up some other coaches and maintain some goodwill with other institutions.
Plus Bielma is going to be out at Arkansas. Not that CK would consider that job, but Finebaum seems to think they're going to hire Malzahn away from Auburn, and that consequential opening might be one of interest to CK.
From what ive have heard UCLA has never played a factor with Kelly. Then I see talk about a report with Zack Blaine on social media about a meeting with UCLA and that they have no interest. So much unconfirmed.
Here you go again. Same as yesterday. Getting all spun up. Calling for the ADs head if we don’t land C.K. SMH This is the AD who jumped at a narrow window that opened to get rid of Mac. He’s earned some street cred.
I gave your post a winner, strictly for your wife!! What a great gift!! Great job, Mrs. Twodaparty!!!
Pure speculation on my part. Not a lawyer or anything, but couldn’t the San Fran contract have a clause that Chip doesn’t get the money if he gets a job the season immediately following his termination with San Fran? College season could be defined in contract as last game played (could include bowl). Early after the Mac firing it was said we were turning down a bowl invite even if we qualified. Could this Chip Kelly contract issue have been known by UF a couple of weeks ago? I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but if my scenario above is true... I’m happy we’re not going to a bowl.
He does have a fairly high buyout. But I really like the makeup of Campbell. He builds on this next year, and he is going to get paid something good from someone, if it doesn't happen this year.
This is similar to my line of thinking. I don't know what's in his NFL contract and I haven't heard exactly what's behind it, but what I've gather is that there's something in that contract where some stipulation kicks in if he's coaching in this season, but whatever it is appears to be a matter of interpretation and there are questions. The thing that come to my mind is a non-compete clause that was intended to penalize Kelly if he took another NFL job. That seems like a logical thing the 49ers would was, like any company. I wonder if the issue is that the wording is a little vague and while it might have been INTENDED to only keep him from coaching in the NFL, may have been worded more vaguely where there was some question if the 49ers could try to claim it covered college jobs too. I kind of broached this idea with gator_lawyer yesterday but I didn't specify that's my specific thought.
