This is what I told a friend earlier actually. Truly elite programs get their Plan A. Now maybe I'm ignorant and am forgetting something here, but just to use 3 schools as an example: OSU with Meyer Bama with Saban Michigan with Harbaugh If the guy Florida hires is really our Plan C or Plan D, I think that says a lot about Floridas current placement in college football. Guys like Chip want to coach at elite schools. Not turn them down for UCLA who hasnt been relevant once in the 21st century.
Dude, I've started taking bets with fellow Gators that feel it's not happening. THAT'S how sure I am. This ship is going to the promised land my boy!
Yeah but do we want a upgrade? I think of mark richt,,,,or do we want a top tier coach? Imo we know what we are getting w mullen or Strong,,,the only wild card young guy I would consider us Frost, who else is there?
Chip has had last minute change of hearts before and beats to a different drummer. In this case, if Frost wants Nebraska, and Kelly wants less pressure, that says nothing about the state of our program.
this is also in line with how I've heard things from the Nebraska end just fyi. UF initially made a strong effort to go for Frost but was turned off by having to potentially wait and his affinity for the potential job at UNL. I've also heard that Riley will be gone Friday after the game. Not Sunday, not Saturday. Friday. That also lines up with what has been posted on our board and that is Scott will be back to UNL and it has already been agreed to. Lars' report from earlier this week was accurate.
Taggart and Campbell are great at turning around programs. Kids will love them. Why Campbell isn't getting more play is beyond me. Iowa freaking State?
I have been to quite a few locations and they strike me as HS kids. But I dunno, maybe they recruit some at fsu since their graduates excel in that industry.
But what happens if Florida asks Taggert, he says no. Florida then asks Mullen, thats a no (him and his wife have complained about Gainesville and/or UF fans a couple times IIRC). Then what? At that point you've struck out on 4 coaches.
Because his buyout is outrageous. That is why most people skip over his name. I'd probably put Campbell ahead of Frost but again, his buyout is something like 12 or 13M. Theres a reason most "experts" dont have Campbell making a move to a new school this year.
A friendly reminder from Screech Schneider (at 1:47 mark): People are still assuming this isn't done (not based on anything at all other than we haven't said anything), not taking into consideration that UF probably wants this hysteria. The more hysterical everyone gets, the more dynamic and impactful the announcement.
Wife or not, if we wanted Mullen he would be here tomorrow. That guy wants to win and he knows he can't do it at Miss St.
I hope SS understands that he can't let the current vibe of the last several hours continue through the week. If the current narrative remains for 24-48 hours then UF has to pull the offer off the table. No way in hell that Chip Kelly does not know where he wants to coach already. If UF gave him what he asked for in the contract then he needs to shit or get off the pot. We don't have time to dick around here. If we hear tomorrow that he is taking his time to choose which job to take then he can go pound sand. He called us!
Like I said, I think plan C is already a yes...should CK have a change of heart. It is my understanding that plan C is very interested.
A Campbell buyout and salary may be cheaper than a Kelly salary though. CK has the pedigree for big coin.
I'm surprised that there is so little serious discussion of that possibility. And by "so little" I mean virtually none, that I've seen. I'll grant you that he's 72 years old. But ol' Booby won his second natty at age 70, and coached his team to winning records and bowl appearances (unlike us this year) for ten more years after that. I fully acknowledge that SOS's age and the looming potential of eminent re-retirement would make recruiting difficult. (Unless perhaps if SOS had a promising, young, up-and-coming coordinator as an understudy, to groom as his eventual replacement.) As much as I love the ol' ball coach he would not be my first, second, third or probably even fourth choice for the job. I'd rather see Chip Kelly, Scott Frost, Bob Stoops (who's only 57!) or Dan Mullen. But fifth choice, if God forbid it comes to that? Maybe.
