I'm not convinced this deal does anything directly with the Nike deal, though I'm sure if UF starts winning and raises it's brand, we might get a better contract. Nike had no ties with Chip Kelly. Their deal with U of Oregon is based on proximity and Phil Knight. To the best of my knowledge, gave the school money for facilities, not Nike.

Ok, the details are shiftier than Kadarius Toney on rollerblades. From what I can tell, we had him last night. This is where I checked out. Recruits were excited. Players were curious. Board was elated. Press conference scheduled. Then, we find the plane has no coach, no contract, and a deflated SS + Fuchs. No press conference occurs, but there is some chance that Chip still selects us after he's heard UCLAs pitch? Is that what we still have on our plate?

I like Spot Smerklin. He is a nice guy. It showed when he was leaving that plane last night when he talked to the fans despite what can only be a tough day for him. Regardless of the outcome, I honestly think he did his best to pitch Chip Kelly, and probably other UF guys slowed him down and /or Chip Kelly just wanted to play UF. He went for the biggest hire right of the bat, and is trying to keep this class together. Will see how thinks move along with this search, but I think UF will be OK under him.
Its not based on proximity. The Oregon Track coach, Bill Bowerman made shoes for his track team. Made the first pair of Nikes on his wife's waffle iron. Phil Knight was his business partner. Phil handled the money, Bowerman handled the shoes. Nike was literally born at Oregon.
Unfortunately there's that vocal group of past their prime harridans who are bitter about their life choices and resent those who look better than them. Not that we have any of those on this forum, of course. Im speaking only in generic terms.
I rather see a list of how much money the apparel companies make off the deal rather than how much they are paying to break into being a school's apparel company. Addidas is clearly a late comer to all of this as evidenced by dates and limited number of schools. They are paying a lot to break into the scene so to speak and are trying to get their name relevant again among the kids. Bang for the buck, Florida is still better for a marketing plan.
