He might love it out there and want to return to pac12. So be it. But one of the main reasons we want him is if he's hungry to enter to the pressure cooker of the SEC and kick azz. If he wants to be out west then it's better for us for him to do it now. Better he have the opportunity at UCLA and turn them down than take our job and always be looking west.
Well the one thing we know for sure is that they went up there to meet Chip. Conflicting reports on if he signed or not. Greg McElroy on the radio saying its only a matter of time until he is the UCLA coach though. If so, I guess he really loves the west coast, pac12, or lower expectations.
Until this thread title changes to a cooler temperature, I will trust the info given to us by Tilly, Ben and others. They have been steadfast and consistent throughout this process. No reason to doubt them. Be patient, let it happen
he has 20 years or so background in media relations at various universities. Was his job for a long time.
If a good coach wins at Florida it is extremely easy to recruit. See Steve Spurrier. He didn't like recruiting either but with his on field success the UF program recruited itself. Plus there are a ton of spread athletes for Kelly's offense in the Fla/Ga area. The SEC East is still pretty weak sans Georgia. 7 wins on our schedule should be a lock sleepwalking and a good coach should win 3 to 4 of those other 5 games in question. This job is not that complicated.
here's the thing. Kelly has an ego and he wants a challenge. you can't tell me that in the back of his mind that he isn't thinking "screw Saban, I'm going to come into the conference that he owns, go head to head with his ass, curb-stomp him, take his milk money and run this SEC conference sh!t!!"
I think if he signed we'll find out today. Hard to keep that a secret. If he said "appreciate you flying up here but I'm going to listen to UCLA." It could drag out for awhile. That is if UF officials are willing to play his game.
That's right but you are the one repeating the Andreu tweet and throwing that statement out there this morning and you don't know either. Why not put the second statement out where he said he had misspoken and let people decide instead of calling them gullible..
I didn't intend it as he's a manipulator. More media savvy. He's the new age AD, uses all the available outlets. It's early, still trying to wrap my head around last night.
I got flamed pretty hard for not wanting Chip...and the thread in which I explained why was deleted, which was juvenile as there was nothing profane or personal in it....but Chip Kelly is not an SEC coach. His fragile personality is a much better fit for UCLA. If he does come here, he will leave us within 3 years for the PAC 10 or NFL and chaos will reign again. I thought the cost of living analysis on McElroy's show was interesting. You need to make over $8 million at UCLA to match the buying power of $5 Million in Gainesville with the different tax burdens and others costs compared.
