If Donald Trump was a Florida fan he would have fired off some hot angry tweets about all the #fakenews being spread about Chip and Florida.
Gentlemen, why all the angst? Didn't the PC UAA suit tell you this isn't a democracy. I appreciate all the info BTG and Tilly along with others have brought to this thread, but I have a feeling of impending doom. This whole process is now starting to take on the continuing saga of UAA bargin bin, thrift store, or pawn shop deals when it comes UF football coaching searches. What happened to the days when you met your future coach in an airport lounge pounded back a few, signed a contract, shook hands, and it was a done deal. This corporate, college boy mentality of background checks, vetting and trying to avoid embarrassment is getting old.
^^^^^This X 1000^^^^^. If Kelly is coming back to coaching college football it's because he wants to win a national championship and prove his system works against the best competition. He has already experienced the PAC 10, B- to C+ level talent and competition. He got Oregon to the big game but lost to an SEC team. Then he went to the NFL and had some success but ultimately didn't get it done. If you're a guy known as "Big Balls Chip" then I'm thinking you've got balls big enough to want to follow in the footsteps of guys named Spurrier and Meyer, and take down a guy named Saban on the way to the Promised Land. You would not go to UCLA where you're not just Second Fiddle, you're Third String Triangle Player. UCLA football is second fiddle on its own campus to UCLA Basketball. It's Third String Triangle player on a city level as their football team isn't even on the radar of the LA sports fan. Also, he didn't grow up on the west coast, he's from NH. Unless he just loves the west coast that much, I don't see what the draw to UCLA would be for Chip Kelly, unless he's looking for a place with lower expectations and a longer timeline to show progress. Again, that doesn't mesh with anything I've seen or read about him.
I think all the rumors probably do point to something brewing between UF And Kelly. And that is exactly what I am doing, I am choosing what to believe and not believe a bit better now after a week of "Announcement in 48 hours". I don't think there is a conspiracy, but I am voicing my opinion with zero sources here, that it does not sound like we have a done deal yet. I think a lot can agree to that. If a deal is not done, then it certainly can fall through.
Terms in Saban's latest contract renegotiation have language that grant Saban the power to hire who he wants on his staff but they are vetted by the SEC and NCAA.
So long? A couple people working non stop should have had that done in 24 to 48. We fired Mac two weeks ago!
See, this is a fun thread. No need to get caught up in who is right or even who has true sources or not. Just get caught up in the unbridled absurdity and fun of this rediculous situation we are in and this threads treatment of it. We could all be angry after a devastating season but we’ve somehow fun in the situation and I think that is kind of cool.
everyone needs to calm down with all the ucla silliness. if anything i'd be worried about a&m, which is a comparable program. ucla is not on the same level. it's in california, but it shares with a LOT more teams. kelly will be announced after fsu, but wouldn't hurt my feelings if it was before that.
Now, despite what I've said the last hour, I want to throw this out there, I sent a DM on Twitter to the NFL writer (again, @tilly can confirm hes a verified relatively big dude, over 30,000 followers on Twitter) to see what he said and he said to me "Highly unlikely he goes there at all", this is in regards to me asking him "so when does Florida this up officially and Chip end up at UCLA??" I then texted him "Honestly man I'm convinced most of these insiders have zero clue whats going on." and he replied to me "you're right, most of them don't." I said to him something about the done deal garbage being whats set a lot of UF fans off and he replied "tt's not a done deal, but it's significantly more likely than not."
Plus way more to do in LA for a single guy his age with money. If UCLA comes close to matching us (if we actually ever offered anything), he will go there IMO.
If Chip goes to UCLA, obviously there was no done deal, and SS may be able to give a legitimate explanation of why there was no deal. There may have been things UF was concerned about and therefore he was not our first choice, our first choice was the coach we actually hire. It all depends on what the presently unknown circumstances are.
Nobody has actually said it's truly a done deal and just about everyone has said there's a slim possibility it doesn't happen.
If he loved the west coast so much he’d be living there right now since he’s not working during the week. Says something that even after the 49’ers he lives in New Hampshire.
