From a body language perspective, the main thing I noticed was him rocking back and forth. He also started with a joke to try and defuse any tension. And he didn't even technically deny anything. All he said was where he has been location-wise, which is quite possible if his agent is negotiating on his behalf. I feel pretty confident about him being our coach after seeing that.
It's okay, it's already online. Not the video yet, but a full breakdown of the exchange. Chip Kelly addresses Florida coaching rumors during ESPN SportsCenter appearance Chip Kelly may be the next head coach at Florida when things are said and done, but he apparently was not the target of that plane that traveled from Gainesville to Connecticut last week. During a Sunday morning appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter, the former Oregon coach delivered a breakdown of the USC-UCLA game, then he casually addressed Florida coaching rumors. Welcome to 2017. SportsCenter host Kevin Negandhi put him on the spot at the end of the segment by asking about rumors that he was the person the plane was sent to get. Here’s the exchange: Kevin Negandhi: “We also have to address one thing. Last week, I’m sure you know, some were tracking a Gainesville plane that came around the area here in Connecticut. I’m sure you’ve heard about it. And the dots were connecting you, potentially, to the Florida Gators. What kind of interest do you have in the Gators head coach opening?” Chip Kelly: “Is this your way of firing me?,” Kelly said to laughter. “This was a bad telestration so now you try to ease someone out the door? You’re like, well, maybe we have a soft place for you to land.” Kevin Negandhi: “We want you here, but obviously you’d be in demand on the outside.” Chip Kelly: “I was in New Hampshire last week. I really enjoy doing what I’m doing now. I think Florida is an outstanding program and has had so much success with Urban [Meyer] and Steve Spurrier. I think whoever gets that job would be really lucky.” Kevin Negandhi: “OK, so you weren’t here?” Chip Kelly: “I wasn’t in Bristol. I’m in Bristol on the weekends and in New Hampshire during the week.”
That's about as good of an answer as you can ask for at this point. No denial is the best thing. He can't say much of anything else, but he very easily could have said no. Also worth noting, they have obviously spoken aboit the hysteria by gator fans this past weeks by the way he played out the plane question.
He didn't deny anything. He didn't even say anything about Gainesville. He just made a passing comment about being in Bristol on the weekends and NH during the week.
Heyyyy, you're Jon Petrie? lmao you were cracking me up on the airport cam chat feed the other night!
I watched that too and it crossed my eyes and gave me a headache. I hope that's how defenders feel next year.
Guilty. Wasn't looking to give up who I am but we've invested a lot of time into this process and I wanted to get that video up quickly so that everyone could see it.
Sort of a nervous reaction to me with hands in the pockets, rocking side to side. Almost like he was giddy and wanted to say something but knew he could not.
