The issue here is that active college coaches we are considering are having excellent years with their current teams. They won't want to disrupt their teams performance by announcing prior to their final game. At that point, they may decide to accept the job and relinquish coaching duties for their bowl game. If we an agreement with them already, the Spurrier's comments would be spot on. I'm guessing Frost was first on the list and Mullen was another proven commodity. If Frost hasn't actually committed and he is perhaps considering returning to Nebraska then w need a really strong backup plan. That sounds like Chip Kelley. If Frost wavers, we'll pull the trigger on Kelly. It seems we've already done our due diligence and if an announcement is made earlier than Frosts final regular season game, that tells me Frost wasn't committed to joining us yet. Personally, I rather pull the trigger now on Kelley if he's willing to join us. We should structure a contract that sweetens the deal substantially if he remains at Florida after year 2, 3 ,4 and so on and also penalizes benefits under the contract if the NCAA develops any investigation of Florida under his watch.
I still don't understand how anybody would hire Frost over Kelly. I am so glad Stricklin making this decision and not those people on this thread. Perplexing to me. I don't believe that Frost will stay longer and think he could be pulled in two different directions (NFL and Nebraska). Who knows. So I understand that the Frost supporters think Frost is basically a Chip Kelly. Hot up and coming coaches through the last 30 years probably succeed 15% of the time (I don't have the stats but 15% is probably generous). Let's call success winning a conference championship in first power 5 job since coming from a non power 5 HC job or a hot OC or DC coach at a power 5 job. So we have a 15% chance of Frost being as good or better than Chip Kelly. That leaves an 85% chance of him not succeeding and not being like Chip Kelly. Why take that chance when I can say that we have a 100% chance of Chip Kelly being Chip Fu$king Kelly. Can I get an Amen to that.
As I said in the early days of this thread, Frost’s best possible outcome if he turns out to be as good as Chip Kelly. Some folks are just really susceptible to the lastest hype/fad. And for the record, I think Frost is a great prospect, but the delta between Chip and Frost is a lot bigger than between Frost and Norvell.
