Auditioning for an unknown coach and auditioning for a guy like Chip Kelly are two very different things. Knowing that they'll have a guy like that leading them will energize the team. It will bring excitement.
And hiring a new head coach before the FSU game will disrupt the coaching, because it means some coach will have to relinquish his job. Too many coaches. I assume the DL coach would go back to being an analyst, and Rumpf would go back to coaching the DL plus being the interim DC. Or Shannon would act as both DC and interim HC, or be DC and have to relinquish the title of interim HC, which would indeed disrespect him for not letting him finish the job. Better to let the coaching remain as is for continuity till the season ends, then hire Kelly.
It very well be that a contract can't be signed and announced due to the 9 coach rule until after the regular season. Remember the Meyer situation, everyone knew he was signing with OSU but it wasn't officially announced until a day after the regular season Nov 28th.
As a person who played, coached, and worked in football, I can tell you that these guys are human. This coaching change has a huge effect on their lives. They don't know what's coming next. You better bet they're keeping up with all the rumors. That's the problem. That distracts them from the game. If you hire a new coach, they know what's coming. There is no more distraction. They can put all their focus on beating FSU. I guarantee you that these guys are discussing Chip Kelly just like we are. It's on their minds. Giving them that answer will free them to focus on finishing strong to try and impress their new HC.
It might. It also might not. It's not like they've met the guy yet, and most of these players were in middle school when Kelly was at Oregon. They know he's big, but they're not familiar with him like fans are. Regardless, I think we've hammered this enough. I gather your point and you gather mine.
Couldn't they just sign the contract now and have it become effective when the season is over? Signing the contract now doesn't mean he starts coaching immediately.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Hiring Chip doesn't mean you need to make him an active coach immediately. You can hire him and make the effective date of the contract the day after the FSU game.
There’s just one thing I have to add about CK. Some on TV and in forums have been critizing CK for his dominance of what they called a “weak” PAC-10 at the time. FYI: When one team dominates a conference it isn’t “weak” it just has one standout team. This theory would mean in the present-day that the SEC is “weak” and the BIG 10 is “strong”. If you put Bama up against Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State for three consecutive weeks Bama would Win all three games by ten or more. By the way, McElwain had too much of an Upper Midwest Aw-Shucks personality. We need someone who gets angry. Spurrier, Meyer, and Tebow were all sharp, smart, and had a relentless work ethic not to mention they could take the heat when they did lose. Kelly has the mind and experience to be right beside Meyer and Spurrier in accolades at UF within 8 years. He would be viewed as a more modern and less abrasive Nick Saban. Frost has a killer mentality and would also be a great fit. I’m just concerned he would leave for Nebraska after 5-10 years.
I prefer Van Hagar. I know I’ll get crucified for saying it but the “for unlawful carnal knowledge” album is one of my favorites. I don’t think anybody will argue that Van Halen was more influential and probly had the best top end songs, hot for teacher etc but I still think David Lee Roth was an ass hat. His individual career speaks volumes. Poundcake is my jam.
Was this set forth as opinion and mere speculation on the other board, or was it asserted as alleged source information?
Gatorinmi, I have a good real estate attorney I can recommend. I am in private equity for natural resources and real estate and I referred another guy to this attorney (who I grew up with) and he says he does great work and is in south Jax but does work in Flagler I know. If you want a referral to him just pm me and hopefully I know how to check pm's.
I love all sorts of IPA's, strong and light. 90 is significantly better than 120 even though they try to tout the 120 as so much better.
I seem to remember new hire HC, not here at UF, except maybe Meyer, being announced and observing bowl game practices in the past. I understand your idea but a hiring can be announced with a future start date.
