This. 100%. I too want CK, but there is no way they will announce anything before the FSU game. There will probably be credible leaks before then, but the introductory press conference will occur after November 25.
Again. I understand it might be what you do (and many others here), but I do not think it will be what Scott does. He's a competitive mofo and trust me when I say he wants nothing holding us back when we play FSU. Why do you think we're going after a grand slam hire? To beat the living snot out of the likes of Jumbo and Co. for years to come. Holding until Monday (the 25th) doesn't suddenly send our recruiting class into a downward spiral.
Ideally, CK is announced no later than next Sunday morning so he can meet with any commits/targets before they head out. I have no doubt that the contract will be finalized well before that and CK is viewing film to see what he has coming back, comparing needs to what is committed and making a list of additional targets to close gaps.
You may be right. My only issue here is that I feel Sunday will be used to get the "feelers" out to the media and build hype for the pending announcement on Monday morning. I'm also just used to these things happening on a Monday.
Continuing witchcraft. Other than missing out on boobies (which I can get in the babes thread in the Pub) doesnt look like Im missing anything
I will get BBQ'ed for this but I don't follow the importance in the SWAC game. Who sucks least? Who gives a s...? Do what it takes to win the future. 2017 is done. Guys can play or not play. Honestly, it means nothing. Pride in being better than the excrement that is the SWAC's season? Yeah, I just don't care. Crap is crap and both teams are crap. Let's win the long game and whoever wins on the 25th, congrats... Announcing Kelly early in no way belittles the already meaningless game next Saturday.
Well to beat FSU. But also to ensure the money keeps coming in when they have so many major projects in the works. I have no issue when they announce, if its Chip. If its the Sunday/Monday after FSU, so be it. Still almost a month to lock things down. And I'd 100% go that route if the new signing period wasn't a factor.
That's a fan's perspective. A player's perspective (what Scott is sensitive to) is that they still have something to play for and prove. As much as the fanbase has given up on this team, I think they still have some fight. And I'll never give up on my boys. We can still beat FSU and walk out with some pride after, yes, a disastrous season.
This ignores the reality of the situation. The team and fans are already distracted. You better bet that they're as privy to the Kelly talk as we are. This whole "will they or won't they" saga isn't good for anyone. The players want to know who they'll be playing for next year. The recruits want to know who they'll be playing for next year. The fans want to know who they'll be watching next year. Dragging this thing out just keeps it in the forefront as a distraction.
If we were talking about waiting until mid December I'd agree. But most people don't know how close we are to this deal. Most people aren't in tune with BTG, Tilly, and Bazza.. They hear rumors, sure. But they don't know as much as we do (lol as little as that is). We're talking 8 days. If you can't make it until next Monday... Well.
The player's perspective is: "Who the heck are we going to hire? Will I fit into his system? Is he a good coach? Is it going to be Chip Kelly, or will this thing fall through?" Now, if we hire Chip, that perspective shifts to: "Chip Kelly is a beast. I need to go out there and prove to him that I'm worth keeping as a starter." The Chip Kelly hire will energize the players as much as it will the fans.
You're not getting to the core of my point. The players are stuck in the same limbo as we are. They want to know whom their next coach will be. It has a bigger effect on their lives than it does ours. They know Shannon isn't the guy. They see the same rumors that we do. If all of us know all of this, you better bet they know as much as we do. Their friends and families have access to twitter (as do the players).
They should already be auditioning for next season regardless of who the coach is. They don't need to know that it's Chip-mutherfuggin-Kelly to have motivation to play hard. Come on. These are young athletes who have the world in front of them - they know change is coming. Every play from here on is an audition.
Agree to disagree. As a former player, your focus is on the game week. The coaches keep you focused on the game week. Is this all in the peripheral? Sure. But these guys are not glued to airport webcams for 6 hours a day like us.
