Just curious. If UF hired Kelly, are there any rules that keeps Kelly from taking over as head coach right away? I know he can start recruiting and put his staff together. I'm just thinking that Shannon and the rest of the assistant coaches could return to their previous roles for the rest of the year and do their thing. I'm guessing there might be some animosity, but for some of these current assistant coaches, it might be a chance to prove themselves to Kelly and earn a position on his staff next year. It would be nice to keep a couple guys for recruiting continuity.
I think Chip Kellys name alone is good for a top ten class with minimal effort for a few years -- We hear about the recruiting machine that is Saban but lets be real...Now BAMA brand sells itself.. How hard is it to convince a kid to come win a national championship with us -- not have to sell that we need you to make it happen...
Wonder if they upstage our top 10 basketballs opening night by announcing a coaching hire for the FB team tonight?
Florida Football w Chip Kelly would be about 50 a game, crazy alt unis, perrenial top 3 recruiting classes and CFB contention every year. I mean if thats what blows your hair back Nike would probably relocate it's facilities to Gainesville
One thing is certain - if this is a "smokesreen or misdirection" and they somehow miss on Frost, they are going to have to deal with the worst shitstorm they've seen in a while. Why would you EVER use the best possible candidate as a bluff? They need to close this deal, get Chip on campus in time for the FSU game and put the rest of the country on freaking notice.
& & I agree, but it would be quite a thing for the SEC East to have Gruden v. Kelly every year. The first match up, would be epic--certainly the build up.... But at the end of the day, Gruden--brilliant though he is in terms of FB IQ-- I don't think his game will translate very well, to CFB. His system was too complicated for full time professionals to really get--and he relied on Monty Kiffin's legendary defense to make the one great run he had, in Tampa. So definitely, CK > JG. (...but damn exciting, if both get hired respectively...).
I don't think CK would want to walk into this mess in the middle of the season and taint his allure. For one thing, he would not be able to teach his offense to the team that quickly so he would have to run some type of weird "Franks"enstein combination of his offense plus Mac's offense that is already in place. For another, it might be weird to come in and try to put your staff together while the current one is still in place. That wouldn't sit well with the guys who know they won't be retained
Because. With his name attached, and nothing else, Kelly would not only lead us to wins over UAB and FSU, but get a coach's exemption to represent the SECE in the SECG, and beat Bama. Then, the BCS committee couldn't deny the Kelly factor, and (after awarding a 2 week bye), place UF in a double-secret ultimate championship game against the winner of the BCS playoffs. Chip could do something no other coach has done. Win a division title and national title in less than 2 months on the job, as well as blow up the entire BCS system. Just, because.
