I strongly agree with the "spare no expense crowd." If CK is listening, we must make him an offer that no one could refuse. There just isn't any excuse to go on with the same "we can get it done for cheap" mentality that has reigned over this program for far too long. UF football is on the brink of disaster as a result of the "bargain basement" approach Foley took to all three of "his" hires. I don't give him credit for Urban due to the pre-existing Meyer/Machen axis. Couple that with the failure to keep up with the facilities improvements that we have seen going on all around us for years, and it's no wonder we're in the shape we're in. This is a moment of truth that will dictate the course of events, possibly for decades to come. Excuse the baseball analogy, but although Kelly is not necessarily the only valid option, he is certainly a homerun hire. Playing "small ball" at this point would be a colossal blunder - heavy hitters only need apply.
We can't really 'lock up the deal' until Kelly wants to lock up the deal. And there is no reason for him to not listen to other offers and drive up his price. It's not a matter of just getting it done... SS doesn't have total control here to get it done.
We did nott take Bruce Pearl we don’t need Kelly either. There are better guys out there. We would always be worrying for him to leave at every NFL opening.. So I do not trust him. Any coach who gets let go then have a show clause attached .. well I think this is a very serious mistake. On the surface looks like a HR hire. I personally think it is a horrible mistake.
This. +10. Maybe CK is the closest thing to a sure thing. But 50/50 he's fired by year 5. Just the facts out big time college football. Past performance is no guarantee of future results.
Meaning for him to get paid over the next two seasons anything in addition to what he's making, you are going to have to pay him a lot, which is the point I was making.
So after reading 27 pages...there is no info. Great thread. Lol. He current,y isn’t coming, there is no deal. But hey, there could be a deal. Thanks. Real helpful. For anyone just reading this thread right now...there is no hiring or actual info. Stop right here.
Definitely true in the absolute, but he better make quite a bit of headway before A&M has an actual position to offer (no penny pinching or dickering if he's the no. 1). Also better be ready to move on to the next candidate quickly if it looks like CK wants a slow play to wait for A&M. Good news is there are many reasons UF > aTm, regardless of whether they pull the rip cord on Sumlin before season's end and back up the Brinks full of oil $$$$.
I don't think there is a sure thing. CK included. Definitely not Frost - though he's my leading candidate. Closest thing to a sure thing would be Saban -- mostly b/c he'd almost certainly recruit lights out and is a strong leader. It's one guy at the head of a ~hundred and fifty person organization. too many variables to say who will definitely excel. I think theoretically, the closest thing to a sure thing is a guy who can recruit lights out and is very smart and is a strong leader -- keep the team disciplined and can at least recognize and hire good x & o's guys. Kelly is a great x & o's guy and a strong leader. But not a sure thing IMHO.
is that pope selection smoke? if so, i don't think we should make light of the gravity of the UF coaching selection process.
