Question for all y’all who say CK is a done deal: What would be any reason to not have already announced it? I mean, if it’s Kelly just go on and make the announcement and start killing it in recruiting. The ongoing silence strongly suggests an existing active coach - don’t you think?
If we hire Kelly our defense will still be exhausted by the end of the game, having been on the field for so long. The difference will be that it’s because we are scoring TDs so quickly, not because we’re going 3 and out.
I would expect, though, even if tired the effort on D would be much better because if we are scoring more then we are still in games so they are not gonna give up and quit.
I think it's more complicated than that. As well, there needs to be the appearance that we conducted a thorough search even if Kelly has been the #1 target. Plus they have to negotiate how much we pay given that SF still owes him and subtracts what he makes elsewhere from the check they cut. I'm not convinced he's our coach in the end but I have no inside knowledge.
Things have changed. See Bama going hurry-up, no-huddle. They adapted the O to get more Offensive plays per game and they score a bunch of points now. They got deeper on D. There is enough talent in Fl to get 3 deep in the front 7. We can run a hurry-up and succeed on D with depth in the front 7.
I really don't understand this appearance piece you speak of. To me it's the same thing as waiting till the end of the year to fire a coach who needs to be fired. These were things Foley did that honestly hurt us, and seemed completely lost. SS seems like a guy who's not stuck in these nonsensical norms. If Chip is the guy he will be announced tomorrow, there isn't and shouldn't be a contract negotiation. People keep talking about Chip getting paid by San Francisco. He is getting paid no matter what, at UF or not. This does not factor into our negotiation, and isn't some bargaining chip we hold. A guy like Kelly is worth 7 million. He's a sure thing here, we will have exciting football, and we're going to immediately move from a joke, to something the entire SEC will become scared of. We cannot be cheap. Pay a pinnacle coach, at a pinnacle school, a salary that is reflective of the situation. Cost cannot be a factor, the university must make a statement. An offer needs to be made that Chip can't refuse, and one that makes a statement to the college football world, that this new regime at UF means business.
I agree with you. I think if it was a "done deal" they would waste ZERO time in announcing it. It's not like he needs some time to break the news to his current team first.
Two words for you: Charlie Weis. Can't miss coach. Brilliant offensive mind. I can't see how he could fail. Yet he did. And he was just an OC, and didn't have all the distractions of being a head coach.
It's not a bargaining chip we hold, nobody said that. I think you're missing that whatever Kelly gets paid gets subtracted from SF's obligation to him for the next 2 years. His salary over that time period literally makes zero difference over that time period.
It's only been 14 days since Mac was let go, let's assume Stricklin looked into a number of coaches and then decided that he wanted to go after Kelly. Before it can be a done deal you have to do your due diligence, get approval and then work out a deal. Not saying it is Kelly, but there is a lot that has to be worked out before it can be announced.
Yes, absolutely. I think if it is "correct" that he's coming here, it might just be working out the details. That would be why you don't say "it's a done deal" yet. Part of the problem these days is that information gets out so quickly with social media before it can be official.
They won't be so pi$$ed off at the inept offense that they are trying to stick up for like they have been for the past 7 years.
