Good read if you're interested and the CK info is gaining mo. Dissects his NFL problem, but inversely underscores how his O is built for a place like UF. https://www.theringer.com/2016/9/9/16036650/chip-kelly-san-francisco-49ers-offense-f332f053870e
I actually think Kelly has the best chance to stick around for a very long time To those worried Kelly is a short timer: He already tried his stint in the NFL. That bridge is destroyed. He isn’t going back to the NFL. He is someone that lives and breathes football. No family. He is a guy that could coach until he’s 75. Point is Kelly will stick around for 10-15 years. Why? He has nowhere else to go Someone like Frost could want to try their hand at the NFL, want to take a few family years off, etc.
And 53,.... is not too old for a college football fan! LOL Personally, I would like Frost to be the first choice but if it is Kelly, I will be for him and the GATORS!!!! Side note observation. Even though we lost yesterday, I thought the effort the guys played with was remarkably better than at MIZZOU the previous week. Point is from my view that I think these guys are getting over the shock of Mac gone are thinking about the rest of their collective Gator futures moving forward. It was a nice thing to see, out of a tough loss. just my 2 cents. GO GATORS!!!!
Compared to recruiting in Florida and considering most top talent in CA is in Southern CA and not sure if you have looked at a map recently out west but the states out west are huge. With that in mind saying he had a recruiting hotbed nearby at Oregon in CA is probably equating “nearby” from Gainesville like Charlotte, NC. I have not checked my facts on this but I am fascinated by the size of some states out West. Montana for instance is crazy Big. I am editing my post. I just checked and I was even more shocked. The distance from Eugene Or to LA, CA is about the same distance as Gainesville, FL to Washington DC. Crazy isn’t it.
I could see frost using UF as a stepping stone and going home after he builds his national reputation (and reach as far as recruiting), much like Meyer did. No guarantee he'd be here any longer.
There are no guarantees with anyone. Speculating on how long any of these coaches stay here is an exercise in futility. Kelly could arrive here and pull a Bobby Bowden and retire when he’s 85. There are so many unknowns, variables.. many of which will not play out until they play out. Likewise, Frost could get here and love it and never want to leave. There’s simply no way to prognosticate this.
This is my main problem with Frost. Kelly has no loyalty to another program. All accounts say Frost’s dream job is Nebraska. So who’s to say he doesn’t come to UF for a few years, then leave to prove he can win everywhere he goes, and try to bring prominence back to Nebraska.
I would think because he has an opportunity in Florida to build his resume (and thus remove many of the doubts raised on this very forum), particularly if he coached at UF. His ability to recruit the types of players he needs to Nebraska would probably be easier if he was more of a proven commodity, a few years down the road. I wouldn't under estimate the pull to return home. Chances are Nebraska won't be in any better shape 2-4 years down the road.
The CK talk is at odds with big Boosters who want Frost. My info is anecdotal and not a scientific sampling however.
Even though Tilly changed title and has not said anything new from my sources he is correct. Remember I am the one guy that posted the one positive post thread title about Chip Kelly like 10 days ago I think it was something like “media bashing Kelly for a reason”. I then posted the poll Kelly or Frost and was absolutely shocked at results. I am similar to Tilly I think in that I have connections here and there and one of the big bulls was my roommate at UF but most info does not really come that way but from some off the radar ways that I could not type on a forum. If Chip Kelly is hired which I am hearing it is very close to hammering out details but not officially a done deal as I type then I officially know Stricklin used media and even some former players as puppets to create a smoke screen early on. As you know I really want Kelly and looking promising but I feel like we are almost there but not quite. Almost there is Federer in his prime up 2 sets to zero in Wimbledon serving for the match up two breaks of serve at 5-2. Still have to close out the match though.
We promoted an Analyst to assistant DL coach to fill the spot. Robb Akey, I believe. Not that they couldn't as easily demote. But I'm sure there's some kind of protocol.
This logic makes sense to me. I think Kelly's two stints in the NFL make this the perfect time to target him, if he's keen. Solid $, grow a program which has all the branding and little field success... somewhere he'll be instantly welcomed. It's set up for a perfect hire when you think about it... If Frost were to come in and tear it up, he'd be an obvious bet for the NFL down the line... I think CK is done there.
My info in anecdotal too but I get the feeling, that Frost is either undecided or prefers one of the other jobs (Nebraska or some loyalty to UCF to stick around a couple more years). The UAA really wants to announce something no later than the week after the end of the regular season. Which means we need to move on from our first choice very soon (in case we get turned down a few times).
