The post wasn't aimed at you, Gray....just the general talk of preferring Frost because he's young. IMO, the days of coaches staying put more than 10 years is over.
Coaches for decades are not a reality in modern sports. If we get 10 years out of a coach that’s a great run. I like Frost, a lot, but Frost’s best case scenario is he turns out to be a great P5 coach, something Kelly already is. So if we really have a chance to hire Kelly, it’s a no brainer. He’s a proven commodity, Frost is the flavor of the year, just like Herman last year, and many others prior.
I am 100% certain that a deal has been reached in principle with the new coach, they're just working on finalizing some details which may not happen until the regular season ends.
He did win the NFC East one year. That’s more NFL success than some other coaches we discuss on the regular.
This is what I want to hear also. Even the thread tittle has changed but no one has posted any evidence or clue that this in fact is getting hotter.
Right, plenty of talent out in California too. But the thing is, and I could be wrong about this, but compared to mothers elsewhere in the country, I think you might need a little more folksy charm to persuade Southern mamas that their boy is in good hands.
There isn't one. Just a bunch of speculation from outsiders with no credible sources. This whole thread is a bunch of BS.
Lol. The one Bull Gator I know wants frost. It seems like everyone is everywhere in their ideas of who should coach UF.
San Fran was the worst franchise in the league at the time. Thr decision was made to basically hit the reset button and clean house. They fired everyone, including the GM. Kelly’s biggest mistake was walking into that mess. That’s not to whitewash his failure as an NFL coach. But if he would have been successful he would still be coaching there. And guys like Saban & Spurrier did much worse. I’m actually glad he failed miserably at SF. Because if we do hire him, it’s unlikely an NFL team will be sniffing around anytime soon.
I kinda think our fascination w CK is that’s he’s an immediate fix to our current misery because he’s a huge name and available ...the immediate gratification of the news dropping would be glorious versus waiting until the season is over and extending our misery another 3 weeks So naturally we cling to any credible source or rumor in the hopes we can all blast out “we got Chip Kelly you’re all screwed now!” to our rivals and watch them cower in fear
Certainly wasn’t directed at you. Was just wondering if there was any information from a person more directly affiliated with UF. I am sure UF is doing their best to prevent leaks to media outlets etc. Hey, at the very least this is fun again!
Doesn't CK also have a career as a comedian? I've never seen his act, but according to recent news that career has just gone down the tubes.
To those not wanting CK because they think Frost would stay longer than the 10 years that would be CK's max: in its entire history, UF has only had one coach stay longer than 10 years. One. I have been on the Frost train since day one, but I would take 10 years of CK in a heartbeat. Also important to note regarding money and a bidding war with UT as some have speculated. I don't think it'll happen. 1) he's still going to be paid by the 49ers for 2018 and 2019. By all accounts he's not a lavish guy, no wife, no kids. He already has more money than he'll probably spend in his life. He'll go where he wants, and given his comments about having to travel for recruiting, it seems evident UF would be the better choice. Whether we get him or not, I have no idea. But it would be a homerun hire. Even if he failed, the hire at least makes sense, unlike the previous two hires which I think were gambles.
I don't follow pro's. Could actually care less about their business dealings, but if he was "ejected" from that crap hole San Fran, good for Coach Kelly as far as I'm concerned. That said, CFB and the NFL are two different beasts.
