I told my 11yo to go watch some old Oregon games from Kelly’s tenure in youtube - “just go check out the offense he ran!” He says “Dad, this defense really sucks. I mean, it sucks.” I’m raising the perfect Gator fan.
So, I was Googling Chip Kelly's name looking for the latest updates, and came across this 2015 Washington Post profile of him. If you're like me and don't subscribe to that paper, then Google the headline of the article and you can see it for free when you go through the Google link: "Chip Kelly, football’s most intriguing figure, is also its most unknown" The article makes Kelly out to be a pretty eccentric dude. I'm not sure how well his aloof personality would go over with some of our fans, who are accustomed to coaches who are congenial Southerner types and family men. He is a divorced bachelor from New Hampshire with no kids. Personally I don't really care about a coach's personality as long as the team is successful. He's a creative mad genius when it comes to coaching football. But, if we want those coveted 5* recruits, we all know there's a certain way the coach has to present himself in the living rooms down here. Question: Does anybody know if Kelly pulled many recruits out of SEC country when he was at Oregon?
To the people who don't want Chip do ya'll actually remember watching his offense at Oregon... I'm drooling just at the thought of his offense at Florida.... they use to destroy teams
I’m a history major and the Oregon trail wasn’t a fertile recruiting trail He pulled a lot from southern Cal Recruits will come to him ...and he’d be in the epicenter of HS talent
Actually imo shows how uf is a better fit, recruiting proximity and ease of travel is infinitely easier than at Oregon. And the NFL shine is most certainly lessened in his eyes and in that of nfl owners. How about chip for a few years and then hand then reins over to frost?
I think all of you that keep referring to his statement about recruiting need to realize the difference between recruiting in Florida versus Oregon. At Oregon he was traveling the entire western seaboard, to include trips to Texas and wherever else. At UF, he won’t have to leave the state to find the talent he needs to win big. Not to mention, the NCAA has increased the number of allowed “recruiting assistants” or whatever you want to call them, so he can concentrate more on the Xs and Os.
Yeah, I get it. It's difficult for me to believe Kelly's better for uf than frost. Of course I could be wrong.
I get it 100%. Im hugely into recruiting. Have been following it for as long as I can remember. I'll eventually come around to the idea after I get over my frost hangover.
If we're going to pay at least 5 million for a coach I rather it goes to Chip because he's proven more
I am really perplexed by the SOS comments on the Buddy Martin Show in light of all the buzz surrounding the apparent imminent hiring of CK. Any in-the-knowers have thoughts about that?
I actually prefer frost as well, but think both are home runs. The ability to land ck immediately and the inability to guarantee frost for now do make a difference
And if he's as successful as we hope he is, he'll be making substantially more than $5 million in 2 or 3 years. UF has shown it's not afraid to pay top dollar when getting results. They just don't generally offer the big bucks off the bat.
My thoughts are that there are not many if any here that ‘in the know’. The track record for new hire predictions are 50/50 at best here.
I get that Frost is more unproven but he's young and energetic and he is winning at UCF. He'd be the HC for decades (unless he has NFL interest). We get 10 years out of Kelly? Maybe? I guess that is long enough... Still, Frost just seems to have that "it" factor.
Frost is a home run. Kelly is a walk off grand slam to win the world series...and right now, it feels like UF is down 3 in the bottom of the ninth
