Thankfully put up and shut up time will arrive in a few days. Several teams across the country will put it all on the line in week one, some like the Gators will get tuneups for a week or two. But even if you have a team you shouldn’t be playing you’ll still get a peek at what you’ve got.
Urban Meyer can’t close the games! Don’t know if he cares too but that’s where the line is drawn.
And I know it’s going to be tough on a lot of people out there. I mean I’m giving up my Saturdays and will miss things like SyFy’s ‘Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus’… But I’ll get by.
It’s time to see who’s going to line up where, who’s going to replace who, who’s going to step up, all these questions will begin to be answered they way they should be. By play on the field not on the air waves nor fingers dancing on a keyboard. There is a time for that this week that time will come to a merciful end.
Some Gator things this Gator can’t wait to see…
- How this year’s offensive line shakes out. I know that Carl Johnson wants to play OT but never felt that was his natural position, he has the built of an ultimate guard. Now a guy like Matt Patchan, he’s a natural tackle with an attitude that would intimidate Attila the Hun.
- Chris Rainey - sorry to hear Andre Debose has a tendon issue. But Rainey is the guy who gets this man. I think he’s the most illusive player on the team, Brandon James and Jeff Demps included, it just isn’t even close. But can he take the punishment yet is the issue. Do they plan a season around him, can they? If Rainey stays healthy this season he can play as big a role as anyone he is a playmaker. Maybe they need to teach him when to go down and when to go for it, now sure how you do that but am sure they know and do consider things like that. Brandon James has great kick/punt return skills but they have not translated too the offense where everything is a bit tighter. The coaches must think he’s more durable than Rainey, lets hope he progresses because his offensive production his first three seasons are far from Percy like.
- Wide Recievers - I think we are going to be just fine at WR. But thankfully we’ll get that answer real soon.
- Defense - About the only things I wonder about on this side of the ball are the defensive tackles, hope we get more than three into the rotation. Can’t wait to see Jaye Howard. Also am excited about the defensive ends, this team has so much on the defensive side of the ball the most this man can ever remember.
- Special teams? - with Urban Meyer this shouldn’t be an issue if it weren’t for what he said recently. Perhaps that was motivation you just don’t know. Well you will know real soon and that’s the best time about this time of the year.
