Alabama makes 2009 look GOOD

by Swampie on August 24, 2009

Saw the replay of the Alabama – Florida SEC Championship game yesterday. This man forgot a lot about that game. It pretty much had the answers to this season.

First off Percy Harvin did not play. Tim Tebow was almost perfect with his throws spotting many balls where only Gator receivers had an opportunity to make the catch. Some of those receptions were difficult ones but they were made.

The biggest deal was each of the three TDs Tebow threw were caught by backup receivers. The first TD was a three yard low throw in the first quarter to Carl Moore which was his first TD at Florida. The second a five yard toss to David Nelson in the second quarter. The final TD in the fourth quarter another five yard toss was too Riley Cooper this sealed the deal 31-20 with 2:50 left in the game.

These guys came up big, Arron Hernandez and Louis Murphy had strong games too. Hernandez was the secret weapon with that inside option late in the game.

Alabama had some good drives early on but the defense got tougher as the game wore on, Glen Coffee had 112 yards on 21 carries but that was about it for the Tide. John Parker Wilson had some success early especially on one big 64 yard toss run to Julio Jones in the first quarter. But he ended with 12 of 25 for 187 with one INT. This paled in comparison to Tebow’s 14 of 22 for 216, 3 TDs and no INTs.

This was one tough game. Seeing it again really made this man feel better about this season because all those WRs came up big and the offense went against a great defense without Harvin yet still delivered the knockout blow in the fourth quarter.

Also saw the Georgia game again a few weeks back and was surprised at the play of our linebackers that game. Brandon Spikes had his big hit on NoShow but AJ Jones and Dustin Doe really had some nice plays out in space.

And don’t get this man going on the defensive backs. We will be better at DT this season, we will be better at DE, we will be better at LB and defensive back. They are all returning, we have more depth which is scary, and by the way at the end of the Bama and Oklahoma games last year our defensive ends unleashed HELL. It could be that way for four quarters this fall.
