Oh what a Decade…

As the 2009 college football season rapidly approaches so does the end of the first decade of this millennium. The SEC has four national championships in the last nine seasons.

National Champions 2000-09
Con SEC Big 12 Big 10 Pac 10 Big East
2008 Florida
2007 LSU
2006
Florida
2005 Texas
2004 USC
2003 LSU USC
2002 Ohio State
2001 Miami
2000 Oklahoma

.
Going back to Alabama’s championship in 1992 the SEC has won seven by four different teams over the past 17 years.  The Big 12 comes close with the great run by Nebraska they’ve won five championships by three different teams.

Over this time period 12 different teams have won it all, three years there were co-champions, three conferences have only had one team the Pac 10, ACC and Big East, the Big 10 has had two.  The Big 12 and SEC have dominated the championship the past 17 seasons with 12, that’s pretty amazing to this man.

A good bet would be Florida and Texas playing for a championship to close out this decade.  The SEC is two ahead of the Big 12 so a Big 12 win would tighten it up or a win by the Gators could give the SEC a three win cushion and crown Florida as the true king of this land of football giants.
