Royal Palm Bay is the home of one of the most explosive WRs in the nation in Chris Dunkley. Head coach Eric Patterson said teams try to stop him so they had to do different things for his offensive weapon.

Coach Patterson on Chris Dunkley, “He can flat out run and play the game! He reminds me of Reidel Anthony. He has the hands of a Chris Doering.”

Dunkley has been timed in the low 4.4s, coach said he’s 6-1, 175.

Patterson said, “He’s put together two solid big years for us. He’s a creator, he makes things happen. Teams try to stop him so we move him all around the field. ”

Last season Dunkley had 40 receptions for 595 yards and six TDs. He made second team All-State his junior year, was All-County Offensive Player of the Year. He is also concentrating special teams and doing a lot of damage there because defenses started double covering him last season.

But expect Dunkley to have a monster season in 2009. Royal Palm Beach went 9-1 in the regular season losing their opener to Dwyer 7-13. They return 20 juniors from that team. They should be loaded meaning most likely teams won’t be able to concentrate on one player, Dunkley.

Coach Patterson, “What we want for Chris is to finish where he goes, getting the degree is the most important thing. He has the skills to play at any level. He’s not where we want him to be in the classroom,he’s not at 2.8. But he’s ok he’s around 2.4 – 2.5.”

Dunkley is an only child so there’s no more where he came from. Coach said he’s a fine young man. He ran track last year but coach didn’t know if he’d run it again this season.

Last season Dunkley ran track please keep in mind that he was a sophomore. He had an 11.04 100m, 22.15 200m, 21-3 long jump and 41-4 triple. The raw 11.04 with work could easily go to 10.7-10.8 by his senior year and that’s as fast as Chris Rainey or Bennie Alexander ran in high school.

When asked if he knew what school were his favorites Coach Patterson said, “I don’t get into that. Who’s not looking at him? Everyone is after him.

But I can tell you this he really enjoys the University of Florida. I know that.”

All that can be found this year are Dunkley’s receiving stats. Dunkley’s overall production goes a whole lot farther than the receiving stats would indicate. If he were to come to Florida one spot of many that he’d be up for would be Brandon James return job along with taking his spot with the WRs and helping with that slot stuff in the offense.
