Marking History

 Nov 13  |  0 Comments  |

On Tuesday, while Angie and I had the day off, and actually didn’t log any work hours for UF, I was looking for a new way to take note of Veterans’ Day.  Having been to the ceremony at Kanapaha Veterans Memorial Park previously, this year, I wanted to be a part of something a little more low key.

Work supplied the means on Wednesday when the Department I work for participated in the dedication of a historical marker on the west side of campus.

This location has special meaning for me because during the 1999-2000 school year I was the Residence Director of the 400+ bed facility on this site.  The group of building has had several names since being built in the early 1990’s.

When the facility was originally constructed, there was some effort to give it the name Flavet Village or Flavet Complex, but various reasons prevented that from happening.  Now, in 2008, the name Flavet is given official recognition via the remembrance of the buildings that were once there.
